What is sound healing?

Sound healing or sound therapy is a unique interaction between you and the gongs and other sacred instruments, with me as the shepherd of these vibrations, or simply the ‘holder of space’. Sound has a profound impact on the physical, emotional, energetic and mental layers of our being. Not surprising really as we are sound! Sacred sound is that which takes us to silence, to connection with source which is the ultimate healing.

Treatments take place in our amazing roundhouse sound temple here on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall.

Sound is the original creative force - it can heal, inspire beauty and guide us to profound states of stillness and silence.

Who is sound therapy suitable for?

I support people with pain and chronic illness, stress and anxiety and many other conditions. Many people come without a specific ‘issue’ but with a desire to retune energetically; or a curiosity about how sound can support their self care and spiritual journey.

121 and healing sound for couples

As well as individuals I regularly work with couples or close friends/ family members as a shared healing; sound tends to strengthen connections and dissolve unspoken tensions.

If any of the above sounds like something you would like to explore, please contact me for a free and informal chat about how sound might benefit you.

I can’t recommend Ali’s true sound healing talent and gift enough, she really is a true healer and wonderful human being. Attending Ali’s sound healing and other events has and continues to play a big part in helping me on my own healing journey. After a sound session I feel rejuvenated, and grounded every time, it really takes away any anxiety. Ali’s work is a true blessing, and so needed in this world.

What are the benefits of sound therapy? You may be asking yourself, does sound really heal?

Science today shows us what the ancient seers knew. The body is a great conductor of sound, the skin, the bones and the watery contents of the organs and cells. A beautiful description of sound healing is of leading the inner orchestra of the body back into harmony and ‘sound health’. Every cell has its own song and working with instruments like the gong with such a wide sonic spectrum allows the cells to absorb the frequencies that are harmonious to their healthy functioning.

Sound creates a profound sense of relaxation by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which affects the whole endocrine and hormonal balance of the whole body (just as stress does, but in reverse!). We see the heart rate, breathing and brain waves slow.

On a subtle level, I find that working regularly with sound clears the residue of stress and disharmonious vibrations in the energy field before they become blockages and ultimately disease.

The mind is very quickly absorbed by the sound, creating inner space and quiet which allows the body’s natural healing resources to awaken. A purification may take place, of thoughts, emotions or memories.

And circling back to what the mystics have known; in the sound bath we are entering different states of consciousness, those associated with meditation and creativity, self healing, deep inner enquiry and one-ness.

What happens during a sound healing session?

We will have a detailed consultation before meeting. Upon understanding your needs I take time over which instruments will be best suited, and then combine and weave these in an intuitive flow. I have a large range of high quality gongs which offer different sound characters or frequency ranges. And a large collection of old ‘singing bowls’ collected over the years on my travels in India and Nepal.

The flow of the treatment often begins with singing bowls placed on the body (if you are comfortable with this), sounded directly into the spaces, muscles and energy channels. Then we explore the gongs up close including moving the gong stands carefully over your body (a bit like going into a gong scanner!) or having you suspended in the ‘sound cocoons’!

Woven into the experience are my voice, elements sounds such as ocean drum, shakers, rain sticks and ancient instruments like flute, drum, sistrum and lyre.

Just as important in the healing process (as you listening to the sounds) is being witnessed - I allow 90 mins per treatment so there is space for you to be heard, with complete confidentiality and non judgement.

I signed up for six 1-2-1 sound healing sessions with Ali to support my journey through breast cancer treatment. I was struggling with anxiety after diagnosis and knew I needed more than conventional treatments to keep me strong. Sound healing turned out to be an amazing way to process my experiences and give my body some deep, healing rest. In a way, it was the medicine I chose for myself.

Ali held safe and sacred space for me throughout, personalising the sessions for my state of body and mind each time. She was empathetic and intuitive and our time together was hugely powerful and supportive to me. Ali’s sound temple is a really special place that fits just a few people among the beautiful instruments. Outside is a wild garden filled with bird song and I was able to end several of my sessions exploring some new places on the Lizard Peninsula, from Church Cove to Frenchman’s Creek, which are nearby.

Sound healing is such a unique and profound experience, I will definitely return to Ali to support my wellbeing in the future and will never forget the time and care she gave me at a tough time.
